ROBOTICS CAMPS & ROBOTICS EXTREME

Robotics I: (recommended for ages 9-13, min. completed Gr.3)
If you like LEGO you’ll love Robotics camp - As a young programmer and engineer you’ll build machines out of LEGO parts - including gears, wheels, motors, lights, sound elements and a variety of sensors - then hook them to a computer and control them with programs you write yourself.

Parents: Both Robotics courses are an excellent introduction to programming and require no computer or Lego experience. In addition to learning how robots interact with their environment, students will learn programming basics that even include designing a GUI (graphical user interface) so parents can control their kid's robots at the end of camp Open House.

Robotics II : Enter the RoboLab! (recommended for ages 11-14)
Featuring Labview-based programming*, kids create robots that can interact with their environment and solve a variety of challenges by adding a variety of sensors and motors. You can also control your robots by remote control or with a computer. Kids are given a variety of design problems that are fun and challenging. Campers also build a 'bot' of their own design and program it to enter in the end of camp, 'Battle of the Bots' competition.

Please note that Level I is not a prerequisite. Robotics II has a greater emphasis on the building/engineering aspects of robotics and has more sophisticated programming problems to solve.]

* LabVIEW is a powerful programming environment used by engineers and scientists in colleges and industry. It is the leading software development tool for measurement and control. It is used to analyze and compute real results for biomedical, aerospace, energy research applications and numerous other applications.

new for 2006!
(recommended for ages 11 (or completed Grade 5) -14 & Prerequisite: Robotics I or II)

Take the next step up from Lego. Campers, in teams of two, will construct their robot (no soldering) and learn basic electronics, how a microcontroller works and through a series of activities, learn how to program their robot to solve a variety of challenges. Focus is both engineering and programming.
